The Dream of Gerontius
Filmed in colour from Canterbury Cathedral in 1968, this DVD represents the only existing film of Sir Adrian Boult conducting The Dream of Gerontius. Sir Adrian Boult championed Elgar’s music throughout his life, following the composer’s prophetic words in a letter to the conductor: ‘I feel that my reputation in the future is safe in your hands’. Featuring a stellar cast of soloists including Dame Janet Baker, this performance is redolent of Sir Adrian Boult’s ‘commendable energy and typical humanity’ (The Gramophone Guide review of Boult’s 1975 studio recording of The Dream of Gerontius). This DVD also features a 60-minute documentary on Sir Adrian Boult produced by the BBC in 1989 to celebrate the centenary of his birth. -

Boston Symphony Orchestra / Michael Tilson Thomas
MP4 Video Download:Less than one year after Michael Tilson Thomas’s first appointment with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a series of concerts were filmed for television that demonstrate an electric relationship with the orchestra’s newest assistant conductor. Featuring Three Places in New England by Charles Ives, a composer whom Tilson Thomas has long since championed, as well as two works that are completely new to his discography and videography, this DVD gives a valuable account of his early performances with the BSO. Erich Leinsdorf / Boston Symphony Orchestra
MP4 Video Download:Intense and driven, Leinsdorf’s interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony gives us a fresh reading of this familiar music. With insightful performances featuring a flexible and brilliant Boston Symphony Orchestra, all three works are new to Leinsdorf’s discography. The ICA Classics Legacy series represents an historic account of performances by some of the world’s greatest artists. This DVD features some of the earliest televised concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and their Music Director, Erich Leinsdorf. While the material has been restored using the greatest care and state-of-the-art techniques, certain visual artefacts and distortions remain in some instances due to the age of the film. Despite this, it remains of exceptional musical interest and historic value and is released here for the first time on DVD. -

Erich Leinsdorf / Boston Symphony Orchestra
MP4 Video Download:Leinsdorf’s recordings of Mahler’s symphonies on RCA Victor became benchmarks for both sound and performance quality. Intense, warm and expressive, this rendition of Mahler’s First Symphony is a deeply personal account, whilst Till Eulenspiegel - a party piece during Leinsdorf’s tenure - is performed with great precision and finesse by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
