Description
Having performed and recorded extensively with prestigious orchestras worldwide, Igor Markevitch returned to Russia in 1960 at the height of his powers, where he made a great impression on the musical elite. He performed this dramatic account of the Verdi Requiem featuring the young Galina Vishnevskaya with the Moscow Philharmonic, in a rare live recording which preceded the studio version, now out of print. The spontaneity of the live recording is unmistakable. The six Rossini Overtures, all brilliantly played, have been sourced from a mint LP to give extra bloom to the sound.
