Description
Both in the concert hall and on record, Sir John Barbirolli was associated with the music of English composers, but his interpretations of Mahler and Sibelius, as well as those of Berlioz, Debussy and Ravel, have always been very much admired. This new live studio recording of Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique with the SWF orchestra in Baden-Baden from February 1969 is in state-of-the-art stereo sound and does full justice to Berlioz’s wonderful score. Haydn’s Symphony No.83 ‘The Hen’ (a Barbirolli favourite), comes from the same concert which makes this CD of two timeless classics excellent value with over 80 minutes of music.
