Description
Dimitri Mitropoulos (1896-1960), a most distinguished Mahlerian, was one of the great conductors of his generation. This Cologne performance of Mahler’s Symphony No.3 from 1960 is the only complete performance of the work conducted by Mitropoulos. It is also the only officially released recording of his Cologne performance, and is coupled here with Debussy’s La Mer recorded just one week earlier. Both performances are worthy documents of a great conductor.
